Travel Tips

Flights

Corfu International Airport (CFU)
10 minutes from venue

Major European and Greek Destinations with Direct Flights to Corfu:

https://www.flightsfrom.com/CFU

Alternatively, for the adventurers car rentals/buses are available from Thessaloniki, Greece (SKG) - 3h 30m and Athens, Greece (ATH) - 6h followed by a ferry that allows cars - 1h 30m. Plentiful stunning stops on the way that are worth a visit, as well as scenic routes.

Longer Ferry Boat rides also go from multiple Italian destinations to Corfu. Additionally, Kefalonia has an airport to fly into and then a ferry that can take you to Corfu. If you plan to visit multiple places, I suggest taking advantage of the multi-city feature when booking flights, or booking a round trip to a major city that you want to see - Athens, Rome, Paris, Venice, London etc. - then taking a direct flight to Corfu.

Note: Certain flights are seasonal so only run from May to October, so they might not show too far in advance.

*If flying into Athens, Rome, Milan with a connecting flight give yourself extra time for customs/security. These airports tend to get busy, so it is important to get there earlier than later.

Flights tend to get cheaper around 2-6 months before departure.

If you wish to make a stop to another European destination first, booking at least 2 months in advance allows you to get very good deals to travel within Europe.

Feel free to message Villy for suggestions, local airline recommendations, etc.

Hotels

Ariti Grand Hotel

Corfu Holiday Palace

Walking distance to venue, taxis, buses, beach.
10 minute drive from port/airport.
10 minute drive from Corfu town.

We suggest staying there for the wedding, then if staying in Corfu longer venturing to the north side of the island. Ipsos, Dassia, Sidari for lively towns with lots of restaurant and bar options walking distance as well as beautiful resorts. Or you could find a quaint AirBnB/boutique hotel in a village North or near Paleokastritsa for lots of nature, picturesque villages with fewer people and beautiful beaches nearby.

For any planning help, please feel free to reach out to Villy.

The bus system is cheap, reliable and can take you many places if you are in Kanoni (venue area) or Corfu town (main town).

Renting a car/moped is a great way to get around and find secret beaches and villages public transportation does not go to. Ensure that you are renting an automatic vehicle, not a manual transmission because Greek roads are no joke when you do not have experience with a stick shift.

Uber is available in Corfu and gives you a set rate then connects you to a local cab driver, so they don't give you tourist pricing.

Private Drivers are also available if you would like to go the bougie route.

Pro Tips: if you want to take a cab, ask them how much they want for the destination you want to get to. Haggling is appropriate if they do not want to use the taxi meter. Cash is appreciated and they are more likely to give better pricing that way. Tips are not necessary.

Corfu, Greece

Nestled in the Ionian Sea, Corfu (Kerkyra) is one of Greece's most enchanting islands, celebrated for its lush landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and rich cultural heritage. Corfu is known for its verdant olive groves, cypress trees, and vibrant gardens, earning it the nickname "The Emerald Isle of Greece."

With over 2,500 years of history, Corfu has been shaped by Greek, Venetian, French, and British influences. This unique blend of cultures is reflected in its elegant architecture, charming villages, historic fortresses, and world-renowned cuisine.

Corfu is famous for its dramatic coastline, hidden beaches, emerald-green hills, and more than four million olive trees, many of which are centuries old. Visitors can explore charming fishing villages, mountain viewpoints, turquoise bays, and scenic hiking trails, all within a relatively short drive.

According to Greek mythology, Corfu is the legendary island of the Phaeacians, where Odysseus was washed ashore after his long journey home from Troy.

Princess Nausicaa, daughter of King Alcinous, discovered the shipwrecked hero while washing clothes by the river. The Phaeacians welcomed Odysseus with legendary hospitality before providing the ship that finally carried him back to Ithaca, which was the final stage of his epic journey in The Odyssey.

The island's Greek name, Kerkyra, is also linked to mythology. Legend says the sea god Poseidon fell in love with the nymph Korkyra and brought her to the island, which was later named in her honor.

Achillion Palace

Austrian Empress Elisabeth's (aka Sisi) summer house.

Old Fortress

The Old Fortress of Corfu, known locally as Palaio Frourio, is a historic Venetian stronghold.

Angelokastro

Angelokastro is one of the most important fortified complexes of Corfu. It was an acropolis which surveyed the region all the way to the southern Adriatic.

Monastery of Paleokastritsa

The Paleokastritsa Monastery is a historic 13th-century Byzantine complex featuring a traditional olive press, an ecclesiastical museum, and panoramic sea views.

Women need to have their shoulders covered to enter and no shorts allowed for either men or women.

Old Perithia

Escape the bustling coast and step back in time in Old Perithia, Corfu's oldest village.

Rent a Boat/ Water Sports

There are cheap boats to rent and drive with only a U.S. license in order to explore the caves and secret coves.
There's also charters with a captain that will take you to dedicated routes.Day trips to the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos. As well as trips to Parga on mainland, or Saranda, Albania. Good for day trips or multiple day stops.

Water sports: parasailing, water skiing, SUP, wakeboarding, jet skiing, scuba diving.

Beach Bars

Plenty of beach bars to drive to. Most will have a minimum spend or a price per sunbed/set of sunbeds (depending on beach anywhere from 10 EUR to 40 EUR)

Make sure to get there before noon to beat the crowds. On week days prices tend to be lower.

Hiking

There is some great hiking trails on the North side of the island and near Paleokastritsa.The best hikes in Corfu include the Porto Timoni and Afionas Trail, the Mount Pantokrator and Old Perithia route, and the dramatic Lakones to Angelokastro path.

Wine + Olive Oil Tastings / Cooking Classes

Nothing better than tasting local products, or even better learning how to cook local dishes. Plenty of options around Corfu town and nearby areas.

With Love

Your presence at our wedding is truly the greatest gift we could ask for, especially knowing that many of you will be traveling such long distances to celebrate with us. We do not expect or ask for gifts, you being there is more than enough.

However, many of you asked if we have a registry. For those who really wish to give a little something, you can choose to make a donation to Austin Pets Alive! - a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter in Austin, Texas, where we adopted our dogs, Loki and Cooper. Or you can make a contribution towards our honeymoon fund.

Proposal Story

It was about 7am, I (Villy) had just woken up, when Alex walked in our bedroom and started reciting a poem he wrote himself - while I was half asleep and struggling to understand what he was even saying. He finished off by announcing I have 24 hours to pack and that we are going on a surprise trip the next morning.

Naturally, I knew something was up because surprise trips are not Alex Senn's forte. Thankfully, he was thoughtful enough to give me a day to get ready, and even had the dogsitter already booked.

Long story short, we get to the airport and I find out we are going to Cozumel, Mexico. I had previously mentioned to him how I had never been to Mexico, and turns out Alex does listen to me when I talk.

So, the very first morning of our trip while my hair was messy, no makeup on, Alex wanted us to go to breakfast at this beach bar he had in mind. Thinking nothing of it - since I was suspecting he was going to wait till the very last minute to propose in order to trick me into thinking he won't - we got on our moped and drove to that beach.

We walked in and that place is empty. Not a single soul. No workers. Nothing. Hence, I assumed Alex forgot to check if they were open that day. He assured me it was open and that the restaurant must be around the back, then insisted we leave our stuff on a random sun bed. After a 5 minute debate on whether it is a good idea to leave our bags on a random Mexican beach, he convinced me to go on a little walk. He took my sunglasses off and instructed me to take my shoes off - very subtle. Then we walked to this outlook by the water, where he proceeded to pop the question while I could not stop laughing - what can I say I am an awkward human being. For those of you wondering - I did say yes .

Alex planned a very thoughtful and lovely trip and proposal. I am very grateful to call him my fiancé.

Below are some pictures that the photographer that was hiding in the bushes during the proposal took.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the RSVP deadline?/Μέχρι πότε μπορώ να απαντήσω στην πρόσκληση;

Since this is a destination wedding, and due to venue restrictions we need your response by March 1, 2027.

Will the wedding be inside or outside?/Θα τελεσθεί σε εξωτερικό ή εσωτερικό χώρο ο γάμος;

The wedding - both the ceremony and the reception - will be outside.

What should I wear?/Τι να φορέσουμε;

Dress code: Black Tie Optional

Since our venue was featured in a 1981 James Bond film, we want this to feel like a 007 party!

We suggest black suits or tuxedos for men with a tie or bowtie. For the ladies long formal dresses/gowns. If you want to match the color palette of the wedding, we optionally recommend shades of purple, red, pink, green or black.

Colors are entirely optional, we want everyone to be comfortable and happy with their attires. But this is your chance to wear the fancy outfit you never had a place to wear to, to dress to impress. We would love to see some fun outfits. Don't worry about upstaging the bride - as long as you do not choose a white wedding dress.

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?/Τι ώρα να φτάσω για την τελετή;

We recommend you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the ceremony in order to be properly situated by the start. Refreshments will be provided. If the ceremony has started you will be asked to wait till the end to join at the gardens.

Is there parking?/Υπάρχει χώρος για παρκάρισμα;

If you are staying at one of the suggested hotels you will not need a car. The entrance of Villa Sylva is approximately 80 meters/250 feet away and from the entrance to the top of the hill there will be a vehicle to transport guests. If you are driving, please find street parking outside of the gate.

Can I bring a plus one?/Μπορώ να φέρω επιπλέον άτομα;

If your invitation explicitly includes a guest, then yes you may bring a plus one! We really want to keep our wedding intimate and be surrounded by our closest people.

Can I bring my kids?/Μπορώ να φέρω τα παιδιά μου;

If your invitation mentions your family, then yes! But we do want parents to have a good time and no worries while they enjoy themselves. Also, we kindly ask that if your kids get upset during the ceremony that you walk over to a quieter place with more privacy, so the ceremony isn't disrupted.

I have food allergies/dietary restrictions./Έχω τροφικές αλλεργίες και διατροφικούς περιορισμούς.

Please make sure to note them on your RSVP response.
