OUR STORY

In a city of over 8 million, we found each other
one block away.

In a modern-day romance, our love story owes everything to location-based algorithms - in other words, a dating app. We were living just a block away from each other in Brooklyn, completely clueless of our proximity. The search for love led us to finally discover each other on an app in the Fall of 2018. However, it wasn't until the following Spring that Kyle worked up the courage to ask Peter out on a date.

On April 22, 2019 we met on the corner near our apartments and walked to a local dive bar, American Cheese. We both ordered gin martinis and sat at the bar. The conversation was effortless, the laughs endless, the playful teasing plentiful – it was like meeting your best friend for the first time. And despite Peter wearing mesh shorts on a first date, it was clear this was no ordinary outing.

The texting game was strong. We made each other laugh and Peter didn't let Kyle get away with his nonsense. The relationship grew, friend groups met (and got along, phew) and the dates continued: Kyle beating Peter at mini golf on the Hudson, watching the fireworks on the East River, early Saturday mornings at the bar watching Manchester City. And a few more gin martinis along the way. It was all going so well.

And then the world went to shit.

Covid hit NYC first and hard. And with airports closing, shelter-in-place orders looming, Kyle fled to his brothers in Michigan on March 17th. (And yes for the record Kyle “left” Peter behind.) Peter lasted a couple more weeks in his apartment before he too left for his parents in Pennsylvania.

As it became apparent that Covid wasn't going anywhere, we decided to embrace the situation and take advantage of this new phenomenon called "WFH." Kyle reunited with Peter in PA, we bought a car, loaded it up with black t-shirts and a tub-of-spices and hit the road. We spent June on the Jersey Shore, rendezvoused with friends for a month in Key West, hit up Charlotte (why not - can now say we've been to the NASCAR Hall of Fame), Detroit, Boston and Lake Placid, to name a few. Somewhere in between we took to the sea and went on our first cruise together. (Kyle’s a converted cruiser now.)

Covid was annoying, but we were making the most out of it together. After the home rental market caught-up, and we got sick of suitcases, we settled back down in PA with Peter’s parents and plotted our return to NYC.

Finally, in December 2021, we moved back to New York City and seamlessly slipped back into the routine of hosting friends, game nights, ordering GrubHub and going back to the office. Almost a year of things feeling "normal," Kyle was ready to pop the question. For those who know Peter, he prides himself on knowing everything (love you, honey). So after a secret trip to Cartier, keeping the rings hidden in the apartment turned into a race race against time.

It was September 29th, an unusually warm evening. The sky was glowing ruby as Kyle left his office. This was going to be the night. Kyle grabbed two bottles of wine and the rings, stealthily stashing them in a bag before leading Peter to their apartment roof. Somewhere after the first bottle, Kyle was looking for the right moment when a fateful cruise ship came to his aide. With the blare of the ship’s horn, Peter turned his gaze to watch the ship as it departed. And when he looked back, Kyle was on his knee.

The rest, they say, is history.

(Fun fact: in the excitement of it all, we actually put the rings on the wrong hand.)

We're immensely grateful to all our family and friends for their unwavering support and love. With you in our lives, we're stronger, and we eagerly anticipate creating countless more cherished memories together.

We hope you can join us as our story continues.

We'd rather your presence be your present.

But if you insist...thank you!
