THE VENUE
The Arcade Cleveland opened in May of 1890 as the first indoor shopping center in America. It quickly became one of downtown Cleveland's most popular landmarks. In 2001, the Hyatt corporation redeveloped the Arcade into Cleveland's first Hyatt Regency hotel. It features ornate brass railings, an 85-foot high skylight comprised of 1,800 panes of glass and two beautifully restored marble staircases.
Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade

In 2001, following the threat of demolition, the Arcade underwent extensive renovations and redevelopment and became home to a Hyatt Regency Hotel.
VENUE HISTORY
FUN FACTS
Republican National League Convention
The Arcade was festooned with flags and bunting during the Republican National League convention. On June 23, 1895, the Plain Dealer reported that delegates in town for the meeting left with the impression that the Arcade "affords more opportunity for decoration and display and is in every way more impressive than Madison Square garden, which the average citizen of the Knickerbocker town is sure far overshadows anything like a hall in the world."
The Arcade has a historical connection to Republican political gatherings, most notably hosting the National Convention of Republican Clubs in 1895 with figures like Marcus Hanna and William McKinley.
Yes, the Cleveland Arcade was used as a filming location for the movie Superman (2025)!
Location of a Romantic Scene: The Cleveland Arcade serves as a setting for a romantic kiss between Superman and Lois Lane under its historic glass ceiling. Part of Cleveland's Transformation: Cleveland itself was transformed into Metropolis for the movie, with other recognizable landmarks like Cleveland City Hall used as Metropolis City Hall.
Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison did indeed have a presence at Cleveland's Arcade, operating an "Edison Phonograph and Kinetoscope Parlor" there from 1890 to 1902. The parlor was located near the Euclid Avenue entrance of the Arcade. It was a notable early tenant in what was America's first indoor shopping center.
THINGS TO DO
Gaurdians of Traffic
The Guardians of Traffic are a set of eight Art Deco statues located on the Hope Memorial Bridge (formerly the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge) in Cleveland, Ohio. These statues, each holding a different mode of transportation, represent the progress of transportation and are a symbol of the city. They are a popular landmark and were the inspiration for the name of Cleveland's baseball team, the Cleveland Guardians.
Cleveland Script Sign
The Cleveland Script Sign is located in multiple locations throughout the city, with prominent signs at Edgewater Park and North Coast Harbor.
Fountain of Eternal Life
Also known as the War Memorial Fountain and Peace Arising from the Flames of War, is a statue and fountain in downtown Cleveland, Ohio designed by Cleveland Institute of Art graduate Marshall Fredericks and dedicated on May 30, 1964. The sculpture, which honors Greater Clevelanders who served, died, or were declared missing in military service, is situated on Veterans' Memorial Plaza (formerly Mall A) as part of the Cleveland Mall.
