OUR STORY
HOW WE MET
Trevis slid into Katrina's DMs with all the subtlety of a rom-com hero, dropping the line, "I hope your fine-ass got some church in today!" Surprisingly, it worked—sparking some light banter. Then, Trevis upped the ante: "Can we go to church together?" Katrina, ever the skeptic, replied, "That's a little intimate for someone I've never met." To which Trevis, ever the charmer, responded, "That's the whole point." And just like that, Katrina vanished into the digital ether... aka went GHOST.
Fast forward a whole year later (yes, you read that right). Trevis was supposed to fly out of LA, but fate (and a canceled flight) had other plans. With an unexpected night to kill, Trevis decided to hit the town, which led him straight to one of Katrina's events.
Katrina, in the throes of hosting a BET Weekend Hennessy event at The Gathering Spot, was in full-on production mode when someone grabbed her arm. She spun around to find a man she didn’t recognize—but somehow, he seemed familiar. "Why do I know you?" she asked. With a grin, Trevis replied, "Because I asked you to go to church with me." And the rest? Well, let's just say they're now planning a church wedding. Talk about coming full circle.
THE FIRST DATE
Just two weeks after their first in-person meeting, Katrina's job yanked her from everything familiar and planted her in NYC. Stress levels? Through the roof. Between the subway nightmares, being far from family and friends, and the joy of sleeping on an air mattress thanks to movers who were over a month late, Katrina was extremely homesick. One day, while her phone was on its favorite setting—"Do Not Disturb"—she missed a call from Trevis. His voicemail was a mix of concern and reassurance: "Whatever you're going through, you don't have to go through it alone." Intrigued, she called him back and spilled about her moving stress. Three days later, like magic, the movers arrived. Was Trevis some sort of Superman?
A week later, Trevis flew to New York for their first official date. Katrina insisted on a hotel, and Trevis booked what he later referred to as a "trap house." Their date? A perfect blend of culture and carbs—The Brooklyn Museum followed by a heart-shaped pizza. The night ended with the two of them wandering Brooklyn, laughing until the sun came up.
THE PROPOSAL
A few months after their one-year anniversary, Katrina and Trevis finally managed to squeeze in a vacation that didn’t involve work events, or emails. They jetted off to the Dominican Republic for four blissful days. Now, Katrina is the queen of relaxation—spa days, margaritas, and long naps on the beach. Trevis? Not so much. He was itching for some adventure. Katrina, in the spirit of compromise (and love), agreed to ONE excursion. Trevis, ever the opportunist, dashed to the front desk. When he returned, he casually mentioned they weren’t just signed up for one excursion… or two… but SEVEN. Katrina was bewildered but figured, when in paradise, why not?
The next thing she knew, they were on a shuttle headed into the heart of the jungle. Trevis, determined to push her out of her comfort zone, refused to let her ask any questions. “Just go with it,” he said, oozing confidence. Katrina decided to trust the journey—what’s the worst that could happen, right?
The first activity? Taking photos with parrots. “Okay, I can handle this,” Katrina thought. One down, six to go. Next up was zip-lining, a first for Katrina. She tried to stay calm, assuming it would be a peaceful glide through the trees. Oh, how wrong she was. As she was catapulted through the air at what felt like warp speed, she clung on for dear life, suddenly realizing she had no idea how to stop. Just when she thought she’d fly straight into the jungle, the zipline mercifully clicked to a halt. Trembling, with tears in her eyes and blood blisters on her hands, she faced Trevis. He asked if she wanted to quit, but looking around at the jungle far below, she knew there was no easy escape. Summoning all her strength, she declared, “I ain’t no bitch!” which made Trevis let out a loud laugh and Katrina pushed through the next five ziplines in complete silence… punctuated only by fervent prayers.
But the adventure didn’t stop there. Horseback riding was followed by milking cows, feeding goats, downing shots of Mama Juana, and tearing through mud on ATVs. "What the heck did Trevis get me into?!" Katrina thought. During a mud-spattered stop at a breathtaking lake with a cascading waterfall, Katrina, ever the cautious one, warned Trevis, “Be careful! It’s slippery.” No sooner had the words left her mouth than—splat, splash, splash—she found herself fully submerged in the lake. Trevis, thinking he needed to save her, jumped in after her. But Katrina, already treading water, assured him, “Don’t worry! I can swim! I can swim!” They returned to base for a quick stop at the nurses office, covered in mud and laughter, Katrina thoroughly pushed out of her comfort zone.
Back at the hotel, Trevis nonchalantly informed Katrina they had an hour to get ready for dinner. Was he insane? After the day she’d had, he expected her to get ready that fast? But, being the trooper that she is, she rallied, unaware that something much bigger was in store. She did notice, however, that Trevis, not usually much of a drinker, was suddenly very friendly with the Hennessy X.O.
When they arrived at dinner, Trevis suggested a detour for a photo shoot on the beach. Katrina, unsuspecting, followed along. As they approached, she saw it—a huge heart made of red roses, flickering candlelight, and a glowing “MARRY ME” sign. Her breath caught in her throat as Trevis dropped to one knee. Overcome with joy and love, Katrina said yes to becoming the future Mrs. Harris. They immediately shared the news with their closest family and friends via FaceTime, wrapping up the perfect proposal with a magical dinner and evening by the ocean.
