what should I wear?

Semi-formal attire with as much color as possible! We want our guests to be comfortable, but we'd also love to see a riot of color on our big day. So if you've got a red dress languishing in your closet, a multi-colored neon tie, or some lime-green dancing shoes—we'd LOVE to see them.

flights

Flying into Midway International Airport

Located on the Southwest side of Chicago (~12 miles from downtown). Hub for Southwest, among others. See rideshare information below, or hop on the Orange Line (20-25 min. to downtown).

transportation

Lyft & Uber

Rideshare services are available for airport pickup and general transportation. Pickup at the airport can be tricky, so we recommend reading rideshare guides below for O'Hare or Midway (same rules for both Uber and Lyft).

Public Transit

We love Chicago public transit because it's cheap and (relatively) easy to use. You can even take a train straight to the city from either airport! Newcomers should read the Chicago Transit Authority's tips for catching buses and trains (The El).

Things to do in Chicago

For all of our out-of-town guests, we've collected some of our favorite activities and restaurants below!

things to do in chicago

There's no shortage of wonderful activities and attractions in Chicago. Below are a handful of Rita and Julian's favorites to give you a taste of the city where the couple fell for each other.

The Art Institute + Other Museums

The venerable Art Institute of Chicago is one of our favorite spots—from the grandeur of Georgia O'Keefe's Sky Above Clouds IV down to the minuscule treasures in the Thorne Miniature Rooms. Dozens of exceptional museums await, including the Field Museum and the Adler Planetarium.

Architectural Boat Tour + Chicago Riverwalk

Take in the architectural splendor from aboard a riverboat cruise—one of Rita's favorite things to do in Chicago (she's taken this tour a lot for a native Chicagoan). Those without sea legs can enjoy a snack and a stroll along the picturesque Riverwalk.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery + The Mag Mile

Explore four floors of your favorite mass-market coffee purveyor and be sure to grab a drink from the experimental bar to take with you while shopping the rest of the Magnificent Mile. (If you're a coffee enthusiast like Julian, you're going to like it here.)

Sky-High Views at Skydeck + 360 Chicago

Get a fresh perspective of the city and its surroundings from 1,000+ feet at Skydeck (where Julian worked in the early 2010s) or 360 Chicago. Just remember, it is always the Sears Tower and never Willis Tower.

National Museum of Mexican Art + Pilsen

See one of the country’s largest collections of Mexican, Latino, and Chicano art (for free!) while getting to know the “true Chicago barrio” that is Pilsen, home to dozens of excellent restaurants, galleries, and the couple's favorite music venue, Thalia Hall.

Second City + iO Theater

Laugh your butt off in the city where comedy is born at one of two legendary sketch and improv venues. Improv experienced at any other theater may result in fatal doses of cringe.
