TRAVEL TIPS
Planning your trip:
- If you plan to visit only Antigua Guatemala, we recommend flying in Friday and depart Monday. This will allow you to settle in Friday, get Saturday to explore and attend the welcome cocktail, attend the wedding on Sunday, and fly back Monday.
- If you plan to visit Antigua Guatemala + another destination like Lake Atitlan we recommend adding 3-4 days to your trip.
Cell-Service:
- We recommend you enable international roaming on your phone.
- Locals use "WhatsApp" to communicate (this is an internet based messaging app). We recommend downloading for coordination purposes with the wedding planner and the wedding shuttle. Link to download below.
Before departure:
- Make sure you have your passport ready!
- Fill out the Travel Form linked at the bottom of this section before departing the US. Once the form is completed, you will get a QR code. You will need this QR code at the Guatemala airport.
Once you land:
- Immigration: Once you deplane, follow the signs to immigration. The immigrations officer will stamp your passport and you can proceed to pick-up bags.
- Customs: Once you've picked-up your bag, you must show the Customs QR code and you will be either sent to the exit or bag scanning. This is a random selection, no need to worry!
- Airport exit & locating your transportation: A lot of Guatemalan families wait outside the exit door for their relatives, please proceed to the exit doors. If you booked the wedding shuttle, look for the "Black / Ruiz Wedding" sign. If you booked separately, get instructions from the shuttle company ahead of time. If you can't locate your shuttle, come back inside and contact the shuttle company.
Return Trip:
- Coordinate your hotel pick-up time with the shuttle company. It's recommended to arrive at the airport at least 2.5hrs in advance of you flight departure.
- Airport Lounges: Priority Pass "Casa del Ron" lounge and AMEX "BAC" Lounge
Currency:
- Bring some cash with you! We recommend flying with at least some cash in case you need it when you land. US dollars are okay to pay for the shuttle.
- Hotels and restaurants will take credit cards but you will need local currency (GTQ - Quetzales) for markets and/or small snacks. The easiest is to withdraw from an ATM at your hotel once you get to Antigua. You can also request it in advance at a major US bank before you travel.
