Accommodation
There are many beautiful places to stay on Skopelos. We recommend staying in Skopelos Town for the wedding festivities.
For help booking accommodation, please contact Machi at info@madrotravel.com or on WhatsApp at +30 697 4447573
Here are a few of our favourite places to stay:
Travel
There is no airport on Skopelos, so you can fly from Athens (or many airports in Europe) to the nearest island, Skiathos, then take a ferry (or private water taxi) to Skopelos.
For help booking your travel to and from Skopelos please contact Machi at info@madrotravel.com or on WhatsApp at +30 697 4447573.
Be sure to let Machi know you are coming for the Pullos Wedding!
FAQ
Skopelos travel agent (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
If this is all just too difficult or too complex, Machi (pronounced "Mackey") the travel agent on Skopelos, will organise it all for you!
You can email Machi (below), or just WhatsApp at +30 697 4447573, and tell her it is for the Pullos Wedding.
If you ask her to, she will organise everything for you from the mainland to the island and back!
Itinerary recommendations from Athens
If you’re flying through Athens after a long haul trip, our suggestion is to spend a few nights in Athens — if you’ve never been there (or haven’t been there for a while), there’s so much to see.
You can also take a day trip (or couple days) to Hydra, where Leonard Cohen lived and wrote music, just a short ferry from Athens’ Port of Piraeus.
If you do want to spend some time in Athens, we recommend you do that before the wedding because July is high season in Athens so it will be much busier (and also much hotter) after the wedding.
If you’re adding Skopelos onto a European summer vacation, we recommend flying direct to / from Skiathos to Europe.
If you want to do both (a short visit in Athens, and a Euro vacay), we recommend doing Athens before the wedding, and Euro vacay (direct from Skiathos) after.
Can I fly to Skopelos?
There is no airport on Skopelos, so you can either:
1. Fly directly from Europe to the nearest island, Skiathos → Ferry (or private water taxi) to Skopelos
2. Fly from Athens to the nearest island, Skiathos → Ferry (or private water taxi) to Skopelos
3. Drive 2.5hr from Athens to the Port of Mantoudi → Ferry to Skopelos
If you choose Mantoudi, contact our private driver, Christos Kokkas (WhatsApp: +30 697 584 4201), to organise your transfer from Athens to Manthoudi, (and let him know you're with the Pullos Wedding on Skopelos)!
We highly recommend working with the Skopelos travel agent, Machi (info@madrotravel.com / +30 697 4447573 on WhatsApp) to coordinate your travels plans to and from the island (let her know you're with the Pullos Wedding)!
How long will I need to get from the airport to the ferry on Skiathos?
It's only a 15 minute drive, but the airport in Skiathos is very small, so it can be quite slow to get bags, etc. We recommend leaving yourself at least 3 hours from the time you land on Skiathos to your departure from the ferry.
There is a cab stand at the Skiathos airport to take you to the ferry port.
Which port should I arrive into on Skopelos?
We recommend arriving into the MAIN PORT of Skopelos — This is the preferred port — it is in the main town of Skopelos and most hotel accommodation will offer complementary pickup transport from the ferry to the hotel.
Other Ports:
- Agnontas: 15 mins drive to main town
- Neo-Klima (also called Elios): 35 mins drive to main town
- Glossa (also called Loutraki): 45 mins drive to main town
There is no Uber and no main taxi line on the island, so if you are arriving into any of the ports OTHER than the main town, ask your accomodation to organise you a transfer, or work with Machi at Madro Travel.
Should I take the ferry or water taxi from Skiathos to Skopelos?
Apart from potential cost difference (depending on how full the Water Taxi is), the main difference between booking a Ferry or a Water Taxi is that the ✅ Water Taxi gives you flexibility on timing, but it ❌ takes you to ports on the other side of the island (so you have to organise transport to the main town), and is also VERY weather dependent.
If you don’t have a large group to share the water taxi cost, you can always just show up to the Water Taxi Stand at the Skiathos port and see if there are other travellers there to share the boat. It can be a bit of a risk (not a guarantee), but there are typically always travellers there to jump on the water taxi and share the cost.
If you book your ferry ticket with you can generally use the app to cancel with a full refund up to 30 mins before the ferry, so we often book tickets on the ferry, head to the water taxi stand, see if there’s a taxi going, then hop on and cancel the ferry ticket at that time (but remember you’d then have to work out a transfer from the water taxi port to the main town).
Will I need a car on Skopelos?
Skopelos old town is totally walkable, but all the beaches are a short drive around the island. So we HIGHLY recommend renting a car to be able to go for swims and explore the beaches (and all their wonderful tavernas) around the island.
Skopelos is an amazing island with many beaches to explore, but the island is just big enough to need a car or scooter (approx. 45 mins drive end to end). If you have a motorcycle license you can also rent a scooter, which is in our opinion the most fun and European way to traverse the island!
NOTE: They are strict about having a motorcycle license from your home country, so you’ll only be able to rent a scooter if you have a full bike license.
If you want to hire a car (which we HIGHLY recommend), we recommend you do so ASAP because rental cars become unavailable (there are not enough cars for people on the island).
If you rent from Magic Cars let them know you're with the Pullos Wedding (or just tell them Colin sent you)
Be prepared to drive stick (manual / shift) or ask for an automatic transmission if you need it!
Can I stay outside of the town during the wedding?
We highly recommend that you choose accommodation inside of the “ring road” around the Skopelos Town during the wedding weekend as it's very walkable to the wedding festivities.
If you choose to go stay elsewhere on the island outside of the wedding there is much to explore!
What is the dress code?
The attire is Semi cocktail / beach formal. For the ease of your planning, we have put together a small moodboard for review.
