The Story of Us

That's our first-ever picture together!

Courtney's Version

The universe has a wild sense of humor—and strangely perfect timing.

I was visiting friends in San Diego, joking about how I wanted to meet a "Navy man" while in town (which is so very Courtney). Little did I know, back home fate was already cooking up something even better.

One night during my trip, my phone buzzed with a text from Annie (my sis) and Julie (our bestie). It was a photo of them at a local bar with a handsome stranger, wanting to know if I thought he was cute. Apparently, they'd struck up a conversation with him while watching football. As they chatted they discovered he was my age, which prompted Annie to say, "Oh, I have a sister your age! Let me show you her picture." His verdict? I was "beautiful." They gave him my number, and he texted me that same night.

Honestly, I didn't think much of it at first. When I got home though, Annie had quite the pitch for this man saying she had "really grilled him." And before I could come up with an excuse not to respond to his texts, she informed me that we had plans with Julie to meet him at trivia night.

The night of our plans, he called to confirm we were still on. Two things struck me: wow, no one calls in 2022 and also his voice was so sexy and southern. But nothing could have prepared me for meeting him in person. As soon as I saw him, my stomach dropped. When we got inside, I whispered to Annie that I was nervous. Her response? "What's wrong with you - you're never shy!"

You can't make this sh*t up, people - I knew after that night I was gonna marry him. And the rest, as they say, is history.

P.S. It turns out I got myself a Navy man after all <3

Ethan's Version

Well, I was living my best Atlian life—literally sleeping on a blow-up mattress in my ex-boss’s condo in Midtown, trying to experience everything the city had to offer (I’m a country boy at heart afterall) before his lease ran out.

One night, I called my buddy Drew to see what he was up to, and we ended up at a local bar hoping to catch the Dawgs game. We got seated right behind a table of two objectively good-looking women who looked to be around our age. I couldn’t help but overhear one of them talking about wanting to watch the TCU game. Looking around, I noticed none of the TVs were showing that game. So I thought, “What would a gentleman do?” I approached the bartender and asked if he could put the TCU game on one of the screens. And to my surprise, he obliged.

One of the women (Annie) turned around and said, “Oh my gosh, did you get them to change it?” One thing led to another, and we ended up covering every topic imaginable—from current events to spirituality—and I slowly realized I wasn’t just having a conversation, I was being interviewed! Then the conversation pivoted to the real subject that mattered. I didn't know it then, but I was about to see my future wife for the first time. And boy, was I blown away. She was absolutely beautiful—the kind of woman you don't meet every day.

Fast-forward to trivia night, and can I just say three to one is pretty impressive. Take notes, single fellas! The three women walked in, and all I remember thinking about Courtney was “Whoa, I don’t encounter women of this caliber very often.”

The rest, as they say, is history.
