Our Weekend at Kinblethmont

Our Story

Our story began in October 2021 on a chilly evening in Statesboro, Georgia. It was trivia night, and with our combined wit and questionable confidence, we managed to secure a respectable sixth-place finish. Nearly five years later, we still haven’t won a trivia night, but we managed to win each other.

In terms of personalities, we are polar opposites. I prefer sour; she prefers sweets. I’m impatient; she’s somewhat patient. I like to get groceries and leave as quickly as possible; she likes to navigate the store completely backwards and spend two hours shopping. But that’s what makes this special, because anybody can fall in love. The difficult part is learning how to navigate your differences, overcome the humps, and truly work together as a team. Emma Gene, to me, is not just the woman I fell in love with; she is an indispensable life partner, and we are both so incredibly excited to finally get the government involved!

Over the last five years, we’ve discovered that our favorite thing isn’t staying in one place; it’s simply experiencing life together. Whether we’re traveling somewhere new, wandering through town, or simply sharing the boring, everyday moments, we’ve learned that the best memories come from being together.

That’s why we chose to celebrate our marriage in Scotland. Rather than have a traditional wedding, we wanted to spend an unforgettable weekend with the people we love most, making memories that will last long after the celebration is over.

We can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you.

The Weekend

Thursday

Arrive • Settle In • Welcome Dinner

Drop your bags, find your room, explore the castle, pour yourself a drink, and settle in. We'll have dinner together and spend our first night doing exactly what we came here to do... enjoying having all of our favorite people under one very old Scottish roof.

Friday

Sleep In • Explore • Rehearse-ish • Dinner

No alarms and no packed itinerary, but there will be plenty going on. After breakfast, spend the day enjoying the Scottish countryside and everything happening around the castle grounds—falconry, plein-air watercolor painting, clay shooting, croquet, badminton, and plenty more. Join in on everything, pick your favorites, grab a drink and watch, wander the grounds for a while, or head into town and explore. There will always be something happening. No one will be bored unless they want to be.

Later, everyone will regroup for a quick ceremony run-through, and then the real fun begins for our "Last Knight Out".

Think a whole pig roasting on the lawn, a huge fire as the sun goes down, drinks flowing, and plenty of Scottish music and dancing. Kilts and Scottish attire are encouraged for the men, and for the women, think feathers, velvet, sequins, tartan, and rich textures. Basically, if you've ever wanted an excuse to dress like you're attending a slightly unruly party at a Scottish estate, this is it.

Come hungry, wear something fun, and be ready for the kind of night you can really only have when you’ve got a Scottish castle for the weekend.

Saturday

Morning at the Castle • Cliffside Ceremony • Dinner • Celebration

Wake up, grab some breakfast, and enjoy the morning at the castle while everyone gets ready. Take your time... but not too much time. We have somewhere to be.

Early afternoon, we’ll head to the cliffs for the ceremony, then make our way back to Kinblethmont for dinner, drinks, and a night of celebrating together.

Sunday

Breakfast • Check Out • Edinburgh

Unfortunately, they will eventually make us leave.

Join us for a farewell breakfast together before checking out of Kinblethmont. Some of you will head home, some will continue exploring, and we'll be off to Edinburgh for the next part of the adventure. We hope to see you there!

The Adventure Doesn't End Here

Our wedding weekend may be coming to an end, but our adventure is just getting started!

After our stay at Kinblethmont, we're planning to continue traveling through Europe, and we'd love for anyone who wants to join us along the way. Whether you'd like to meet us for a single destination or travel with us for several stops, we'd be thrilled to make even more memories together.

We're still putting our route together, so nothing is set in stone just yet. Over the coming months, we'll be adding a map with our tentative itinerary and destinations as our plans come together.

How do I get there?

We recommend flying into Edinburgh Airport (EDI). From there, guests can take a train toward Arbroath before catching a taxi to Kinblethmont.

Should I rent a car?

Not necessarily! If you're only staying for the wedding weekend, trains and taxis should work perfectly. If you're planning to explore Scotland or continue traveling afterward, renting a car may be worth considering. Completely up to you!

Can I extend my trip?

Can I rent a cottage?

Please do! Additional guests are welcome to reserve one of the cottages located on the Kinblethmont estate.

Can I travel with you after?

YES! We'll be sharing our tentative route and destinations on the website. Whether you'd like to join us for one stop or several, we'd love to have you along.

Can I bring children?

Unless I have specifically told you yes, no.

What happens if it rains?

It rains!

Can I bring a plus one?

Unless you ask me personally, no.

Are pets allowed?

If they were Hairy would be there, but I'll cry about it if we get into it.

But what should I wear?

We'll share dress codes for each event as the weekend gets closer, but here's a general idea:

Friday Night: Scottish Attire (Bring out those Kilts and Tartan), Feathers, Velvet and Sequins.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception: Black Tie attire
Exploring Scotland: Comfortable layers and walking shoes

September in Scotland can be beautiful but unpredictable, so we recommend bringing layers and a light rain jacket.

Do I need to wear a kilt?

Only if you want to! Kilts are absolutely welcome, but definitely not required.

Is the travel itinerary finalized?

Not yet! We're still planning our route.

If you have a favorite destination or a hidden gem you think we should visit, let us know! We'd love your recommendations and may even add them to our itinerary.

Which train station should I travel to?

The closest station is Arbroath.

We'll provide detailed travel instructions as the wedding gets closer.

How do I get from the station to Kinblethmont?

A taxi from Arbroath Station is the easiest option and takes about 15 minutes. We'll also share transportation recommendations closer to the wedding.

Will there be free time?

Definitely. We want everyone to have time to relax, explore the estate, or visit nearby towns.

I've never traveled internationally before. What if I need help?

Congratulations!! And don't worry! You won't be the only one! We'll be adding travel guides, packing tips, transportation information, and plenty of recommendations to help make planning as easy as possible. And if you still have questions, just reach out, we're always happy to help.

Do I need a power adapter?

Yes! Scotland uses Type G electrical outlets (the same as the rest of the UK).

Will my phone work?

Most major U.S. carriers offer international plans. We recommend checking with your provider before traveling.

Can I ask you for travel recommendations?

Absolutely! Planning trips is something we genuinely enjoy. If you're extending your stay in Scotland or continuing on to another part of Europe, let us know! We'd love to hear where you're going. If there's a destination you think we shouldn't miss, let us know—we just might add it to our own itinerary.
