Our Beginning

Neither Bria nor Nathan fancied themselves “dating app people,” yet there they were, fingers hovering over Hinge. Nathan joined because he was finally ready to find someone special. Bria signed on while sick and bored, convinced she would run into a parade of questionable profiles she would swiftly swipe away.

But then Bria stumbled on Nathan’s profile. He looked friendly, confident—she was intrigued—until she saw “pastor.” Pastor? Cue the raised eyebrow. She nearly swiped left, but something in his smile made her pause. With a sly grin, she typed, “Just because you’re a pastor doesn’t mean I’m changing churches for you,” and hit send.

Nathan burst out laughing when he read it. A woman unafraid to speak her mind? Yes, please. They kept chatting and quickly ditched the app for real conversations—more sass, more curiosity, more laughter. Day by day, text by text, their excitement grew. Finally, they agreed to meet in person, realizing this easy back-and-forth just might be something more.

That single swipe led to a spark neither expected—and neither wanted to ignore. Little did they know, they were stepping into a story that would change their lives forever.

Our Proposal

Nathan always pictured popping the question on a mountaintop, gazing at endless horizons. But Bria’s "well-worn" hiking boots hinted she wasn’t into that kind of rugged romance. So, ever the strategist, he suggested Victoria—her favourite city—under the guise of “just a simple trip,” which Bria proved by planning and scheduling most of it. She even had a Facebook Marketplace pickup mid-vacation.

Nathan booked the hotel. The absurdly large suite (hello, eight-person dining table, two rooms and three balconies), prompted an impromptu game of Marco Polo before dinner. Nathan had reserved a table at the Courtney Room—a top-notch restaurant—but his nerves made him ignore the menu and barely sip his drink.

After dinner, Nathan vanished into the restroom longer than expected. While Bria started wondering if he was okay, Nathan was in there giving himself a movie-style pep talk. By the time he re-emerged, the sun was nearly gone—he was ready, no more stalling.

Though he loathed selfies, Nathan insisted on photos by the Parliament building. Bria, the queen of snapshots, happily obliged—until he asked a stranger to take “just one more shot.” She handed over her phone, turned back, and found him on one knee, the stranger gasping, and Nathan blurting out, “Will you do me the honour of… err… Will you marry me?”

Shocking, she said yes!
